I had a blast participating in this last week and we picked up some great books at TJ Maxx last week that Lil’ Bit LOVES so I thought I’d share.

number

First, I picked up Numbers on the Farm.   It is a really big padded board book.   The illustrations are awesome and show farm and farm animals scenes.  Each page has a list of things to look for.   For instance, on the #3 spread, it asks you to look for: 1. three tractors, 2. three rabbits, 3. three swallows, 4. three tall trees.   AND there is a goose hidden in each spread.   It will is great even before they get to numbers because they are so well illustrated.   There is a lot to talk about & point out to them!

alphabet The other new one we bought is called Alphabet Zoo.  This one is also a large padded board book.  Bones didn’t like it to start until he started to understand it.   Many of the animals are quite exotic and the illustrator did an AWESOME job of making nearly everything on the page start with the letter of the page.   For instance, the page for ‘I’ has interesting insects, eating ice cream.  An iron, irises, ivy, and an inkwell.   I picked I because it was a smaller page.   Many of the other letters are much more involved and I didn’t want a 300 word post of all the stuff they crammed on the page.   It’s a bit silly :).

Both of these seem to be out of print but are available used on Amazon or BN.com.  You could pry find them on half.com, too, but I haven’t checked.  I had some other cool favorites picked out but they ALL appear to be out of print and I can’t even find cover art for them so I skipped them.

Oh, goody! I’m so glad you played again!

These books look like a lot of fun. I love books that are so chock-full of good illustrations/thinking & looking activities. It really expands the attention span, I think. Bravo!
